Dear ALL,
I have been kept busy with other "needy" proposals and only now I had a
chance to peruse our Cycle 16 HST_cluster_SN proposal.
I must admit that it makes me proud to be part of the team because it
looks VERY good, and reads VERY well.
I have just a few VERY MINOR comments to offer, mostly on the SNIa part
on which I feel more competent:
- Everywhere in the text the proper expression to use should be
"signal-to-noise ratio" rather than "signal-to-noise". I recognize that
it sounds pedantic and may look awkward in sentences and, therefore, I
suggest to use it "properly" just at the beginning and to define an
acronym, perhaps "snr", to be used in the rest of the proposal.
- To separate the various references from each other I would recommend
using a "fuller" symbol, such as a "bullet" sign, rather than the Sun
symbol because it is more easily recognizible when "scanning" the list
in search for a specific reference.
- The reference to Mannucci et al. (2006) is missing from the reference
list: "Mannucci, F., et al. 2006, MNRAS, 370, 773".
- When talking about the SNIa rate possibly being higher in the past,
thus explaning the high [Fe/H] in the ICM (about 2/3 of page 6),
reference should be made to a recent paper by Matteucci et al. (2006:
Matteucci, F., et al. 2006, MNRAS 372, 265) that studies the
consequences of the two-population origin of SNIa on the chemical
evolution of galaxies.
This is all I have for the moment. More possibly later...
Ciao - Nino
P.S. Innocent (i.e. NOT interested in galaxy clusters or SNIa)
bystanders, who happened to glance at the figures included in the
proposal when I was retrieving my copy from the printer, were VERY
impressed because the figures looked quite "effective" and
"professional": another positive pint in favor of our proposal!
