Dear HST Cluster SN Team,
I've attached images showing the two XMM clusters that I spoke of today
-- VLT FORS2 R-band (19 min) + z-band (8 min) overlaid with X-ray
contours (0.5-2.0 keV). Judging from the red sequence location,
Cluster A has a redshift of z~1.0 and Cluster B has a redshift of z~1.1
(redshift uncertainty +/- ~0.1). Each cluster has an X-ray luminosity
of a few times 10^44 erg/s (0.5-2.0 keV).
We first identified these as extended X-ray sources in archival
XMM-Newton observations with no optical counterpars in the DSS. We
then followed them up with VLT snapshot imaging. A VLT spectroscopy
proposal is currently pending.
If the other cluster groups feel one or both of these would be an
attractive target to swap in, then great. If not, then no hard
feelings. Which ever way works best for the project.
Best wishes,
Chris
